The Directors want to encourage enthusiastic young people to consider careers as engineers in theUKaerospace industry.  To achieve this, scholarships are offered where you will:

spend time with an aircraft operator or manufacturer. It could range from an airline to a flying club, from an aircraft manufacturer to a component manufacturer.

work with experienced maintenance personnel on operational aircraft, engines, systems or equipment.

have a chance to impress a potential employer.

gain valuable experience for your CV.

Scholarships will be one or two weeks long during the period June-August 2012

Essential travel costs will be met

If needed, B&B accommodation and a meals allowance will be provided

Conditions

Applicants must:

  • be permanently resident in theUK;
  • be at least 17 but under 26 on 1 April 2012;
  • have gained at least four GCSE/SCE passes at Grade C or higher (including English Language and Mathematics);
  • be taking an appropriate course of further education with a view to following a career in the aerospace industry; and
  • be a member of The Air League (or be applying to be a member at the time of application for the bursary).

 Selection Procedure

  • Only applications received by 24 February 2012 will be considered.
  • Awards are made after consideration of the information given in the application form.
  • There is no interview and the decision of the Selection Board is final.

Application

  • An application form, completed electronically, should reach the Secretary as soon as possible but not later than the closing date of Friday 24 February 2012.
  • An application for membership of The Air League must accompany application forms from non-members.
  • Scholarship winners are notified in May/June 2012 and their names published in the aviation press, announced on the League’s website and in The Air League newsletter.
