Christopher Foyle, Chairman of The Air League, and John Steel QC, Hon Legal Advisor to The Air League, jointly wrote to national newspapers on 19 December 2006 concerning environmental pollution. The terrible events of 11 September suddenly changed our world, and in particular, the world of aviation. They left us all wondering what can be done to stop similar massacres happening again, and how we might get back to normal aviation business as soon as possible. Countering the threat at airports and aboard civil aircraft is difficult enough, but there is a wider problem – the fragile nature of the global economy and its vulnerability to terrorism. Thirty years after the formation of Airbus, the European consortium has confounded its critics and shown that Government loans can be repaid, with interest, and on a very generous scale for the taxpayer. The wealth-creation generated by such high value work has a huge “cascade” effect across industry as a whole.
