Young Members Flying Day
A combination of gliding, power flying, two phenomenal displays and the now infamous “Jenny Tye Barbie” completed an incredible ‘Flying Day’ at the Windrushers Gliding Club, Bicester on Monday, 27 August.

Building on last year’s success, the intention was to get Young Aviators FLYING!! Nearly 50 people went gliding; many for the first time. This combined with trips in a Marshall’s Cessna 172 and Rallye Minerva made for plenty of flying for anyone keen on aviation. In addition, several organisations were invited to offer their angle on the aviation world. Superb insights into a career in the airline world from the perspective of CTC Aviation, Oxford Air Training, the Armed Services, the world of Marshalls Aerospace and commercial aviation generally.

This diversity was the strength of the day. Young members enthusiastic about gliding and flying discovered what aviation has to offer. Gliding was in either a Duo Discus (kindly loaned for the day by BGA and Booker) or in a classic T21 (thanks to Andy Perkins’ Dad).

All this whilst rubbing shoulders with the best in the sport and aviation generally: current gliding team members, airline pilots, members of the Armed Forces, and the usual suspects made for a spectacular day.

Briefing before flying
The day also saw the launch of the League’s own clothing range by DickiesStore. The day climaxed with stunning displays from Adrian Plant in his Pitts Special and from Pete Wells in his Twister. The displays were awesome.

So all in all a brilliant day out. Thank you to everyone that made the day possible. Special thanks to our hosts the Windrushers Gliding Club, the BGA, our guest speakers and Booker Gliding Club.

If you missed out, you had better make sure you are there next year…….
