UAV And Drone Schol Graduation

Air League members complete industry first UAV and Drone Scholarship

The Air League would like to congratulate members Jemma Westing and Harry Langcaster, who graduated from our industry first UAV and Drone Scholarship in partnership with Eagle Eye Innovations Ltd last week, delivered by RUSTA.

Upon completing the two fully sponsored scholarships, which consisted of a five day course in Lincoln (both flying and theory elements included), the scholars are now undertaking the remainder of the course work required to achieve the NVQ.

On finishing the scholarship, Harry said: “The staff at RUSTA were amazing and their training was highly professional. The course not only opened my eyes to UAV piloting, but the scholarship has set me up to pursue a commercial career in UAV operations, which will be made possible once completing my Operations Manual. I would also like to thank the Air League for providing young people like me with fantastic experiences which would never have been possible otherwise.”

Harry’s future career prospects include applying to be part of the RAF as an RPAS pilot, which he now feels is more within arm’s reach after winning this unique opportunity.

On the other hand, Jemma currently works as a senior designer and pursued the scholarship for its creative benefits: “In addition to designing layouts, a drone pilot qualification would enable me to go out and gather the visual content myself, thus increasing my employability and giving me a greater variety in my daily work load.”

Jemma adds: “The course overall was very thorough and engaging. I have a much better appreciation of the current and potential services that drones can offer us. It’s an incredibly exciting time and I am wanting to be part of it!”

Sion Roberts, Head of the RUSTA Academy, commented “We’ve enjoyed having both Harry and Jemma on the course, it’s great to be a part of the Air League and have the ability to provide our services to such enthusiastic candidates.”

Stay tuned for more updates to follow on Jemma and Harry’s journey.
