The Air League launched a new format gliding scholarship in 2021 to help people to start their gliding journeys with us and our partner gliding clubs.
As part of the scholarship, we offer a 5-day residential course that was aimed at supporting those without any gliding experience. Our scholars in 2021 spent a fantastic week at Cambridge Gliding Centre, who stepped in despite the COVID-19 and were able to deliver a fantastic and safe experience to our scholarship winners Louise, Arkan and Jamie in August 2020.
As well as daily gliding lessons and immersing themselves in the airfield activities, our scholars also undertook theoretical study as part of the experience. Accommodation was arranged at the club with the scholars arranging their own food and travel.
We hope to be able to offer this opportunity again in 2021. More information to follow.
This is what Arkan had to say about his experience with Cambridge Gliding Centre in 2020:
“I would like to thank you for your generosity in providing me with this great opportunity. I learned so much at my time down in Cambridge. The club was very friendly and the instructors were the best! I got to use the simulators and try out 3 different types of gliders.
You have encouraged me to take flying to a whole new level, with me now looking into more scholarships, and even getting a proper PPL license.
I can confidently say that you have nurtured the youth, and enhanced their knowledge in the outer world, and there’s nothing that we can do to repay such a debt. It has been a pleasure getting this experience, and it’s one that I will always treasure, and love”.
And this is what Jamie had to say:
